ConAgra Foods, Inc. (CAG): This leading domestic food company provides prepared foods for retailers and restaurants, and its brand names include Healthy Choice, Chef Boyardee, Wesson, Slim Jim, Hunt’s, Orville Redenbacher, and Reddi-wip. State Street owns 5.2% of the 442.7 million outstanding shares, which is down from 520 million in 2004. ConAgra Foods (CAG) earnings are trending back up, from just $1.06 per share in fiscal 2008 (ends May 31) to $1.52 in 2009 and $1.74 for 2010. But the sluggish economy may limit earnings to about $1.80 in 2011 before a pick-up to $1.95 in 2012. Meanwhile, the 4% dividend yield and cash of over $800 million should make this a worthwhile holding. (No fees)

General Electric Company (GE): General Electric (GE) is a diversified industrial company that develops, manufactures, and markets a broad array of products ranging from aircraft engines to locomotives and to services such as water remediation and processing, security, consumer and business financing, and medical imaging. The shares are currently regarded as undervalued, a residue of the economic disaster that has burdened the entire country. The company recently announced the purchase of Wellstream Holdings, a large British manufacturer of high quality and specialty pipeline products for subsea oil and gas transportation. That deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011. General Electric raised its quarterly dividend by 17%, from 12¢ to 14¢ per share, payable on January 25, 2011. Indications are that GE might evaluate its dividend on a twice yearly or even quarterly basis through 2012. With the current 3.2% dividend yield, investors may begin to once again look forward to continued growth. Management's recent focus on infrastructure in both the industrial and technology markets, bodes well for its profit picture long-term. ($3 fee for cash, co. pays fee for dividend reinvestment)

In the beverage arena, Pepsi is a household name, with Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Gator Aid, and Tropicana adding to the sales. Snack foods include names like Doritos, Ruffles, Lays, Fritos, Quaker Oats, and Cheetos. Dividends have been paid since 1952, raised annually since 1972, and currently total $1.92 per share.
